What is soap?
Soap is an alkali (aka lye – sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide) combined with oils. When combined they go through a reaction called saponification and in 12-24 hours you have soap. Soap cannot be made with lye. Without lye you will only have oily water.
Sea and Clean soap is made as cold process soap, which means no additional heat is added.
Why is the bar that I received not look exactly like the one in the picture?
The picture is a representation of the bar that you will receive. Our soaps are hand made in small batches and each batch will be unique. The ingredients will be the same, but the colors (especially color swirls) will be different with each batch. Since we are using all natural ingredients, sometimes the colors will vary with each shipment I receive. I find this most evident with French green clay. Sometimes the clay will be rich green and sometimes it will be a gray/green.
Is your soap ‘natural’?
Yes and no. Natural soap to me means that the soap is created with high quality oils, herbs, vegetables, spices, clays and essential oils. In that definition Sea and Clean soap is natural. But, I am not pressing my own oils or growing my own herbs. Some of these products do have to be processed to make their way to me. In this definition, our soap is not 100% natural.
What is the difference between commercial bars and your soap?
Most commercial ‘soap’ bars are not even soap. Try to find the word 'soap’ on the label of bars found in the store. Check out the ingredients (if they bother to give you any) and you'll see just how many cheap oils & fats (like soy) and synthetic petro-chemicals their so called "soaps" really contain.
Here are the soap ingredients from a bar from well known brand:
Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Sodium Tallowate, Sodium Palmitate, Lauric Acid, Sodium Isethionate, Water, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Fragrance, Sodium Chlorid., Tetrasodium EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Titanium Dioxide

Why don’t you have vibrant colors?
I believe that there is no reason to add chemically produced colors to our soaps. The colors are from the oils or from herbs, plants, spices or oxides.
For example, the orange color in Orange Carrot soap comes from carrots and olive oil infused with annatto seeds. Clays are also used for green and rose colors.

Why don’t you have watermelon/baby powder/bubble gum, etc. scents?
Well, these scents only come from synthetic fragrances. I have chosen to only use essential oils. . A few years ago, I stated making cleaning products using essential oils for their naturally anti-bacterial, disinfectants and anti-viral properties. I fell in love. Now, I do not like the artificial scents. You will be surprised once you start using products with essential oil you will be able to tell when a product is artificially scented.
Can I make a soap suggestion?
Sure, I am willing to try to make any suggestions as long as I can do it will pure oils, essential oils and natural colorants. Remember, the time it takes to develop a new recipe, make and cure soap could take up to 2 months. The minimum purchase amount would be 5 full size bars.
Recycle
I recycle our packaging materials. I often reuse packing peanuts and bubble wrap. To save on paper and ink, a packing slip will not be included.
